Everton capitalise on Villa’s missed chances.
Tim Howard was on fire today and he needed to be as it took just 6 minutes for the Blues to concede a penalty kick. Fortunately for us, he guessed the right way and dived to his right to push Benteke’s shot over the bar. Villa were happy to play on the counter yet they looked a great threat in the first half. Benteke and Weimann were guilty of missing a number of key chances to take the lead.
Everton responded as Lukaku forced a save from an excellent header and Ross Barkley had a 25 yard effort deflected onto the bar.
Villa again started the second half the brighter and Everton were finding it difficult to break them down. Ross Barkley was substituted for Leon Osman, who wasted no time in influencing the game. He soon found Lukaku on the edge of the box who drove the ball into the bottom left corner.
Gabriel Agbonlahor looked to level things up for the hosts when Weimann found him in space, but the striker could only hit it straight at Howard.
Everton put the game to bed following a cleared corner. Gareth Barry with a clever pull back allowed Osman to find the bottom left corner himself.
Aston Villa 0-2 Everton.
