Just over two years ago When Skies are Grey disappeared from the streets around Goodison where they had been for the previous twenty or so years.
The shouts of the dedicated sellers were part of many Evertonians match day experience. But they were now gone and island on Goodison Road was deserted.
We never disappeared completely though . We changed. We evolved. We re-generated, if you like.
We went electric.
Since August 2013 WSAG has been a digital only magazine. This means you can only view it on a tablet, a mobile or a PC. It’s still a magazine, it is still recognisably WSAG. But its bigger, brighter and better. There are more pages, more colour, more contributors.
It is more up-to-date as we now produce monthly issues instead of being forced to adapt and change our schedule at the whim of the fixture list and Sky TV.
We are also instantly available on the day of publication all over the world. If you previously subscribed to WSAG you will know that the wait for the postie to bring your copy could stretch for days – or weeks for our readers in Australia, Canada and USA. We could never do anything about it and it was a major frustration.
Since 2013 we have produced 25 digital issues. We have continued to do what we set out to do in 1988 when we first set out: to produce an independent Everton fanzine. WSAG is a magazine written by and for Evertonians. It talks about, it cares about the things you do. It is the authentic voice of a diehard Blue. With loads of swearing too. It’s our thing. No one else quite understands.
The new issue of When Skies are Grey (E025) is a Howard Kendall tribute issue.
There’s a massive 84 pages, of which almost 50 of them are dedicated to our greatest ever manager. There are contributions from many readers and writers all testifying to how Howard touched their lives. We hope that it’s a fitting tribute to him.
We also felt it would be apt to give readers something tangible as a keepsake. So, we have decided to do a limited edition print run of this issue. Just like the old days.
However, these aren’t the old days. This issue is almost double any paper issues we used to do and it’s in full colour. That means it is much more expensive. Also we will only print an extremely small number of the issue – 250 or 500 maximum. And it won’t be on sale on the streets. A large majority have already been sold via pre-sale mail order.
However this is an opportunity to give Everton Aren’t We readers an opportunity to purchase one before it sells out.
The issue will cost £5. With £1.50 postage in the UK and £4.50 postage overseas. (We think it might actually be more than this given the weight of the issue and the ridiculous postage rates for large letters to USA and Australia.)
This is limited opportunity because once it’s printed we won’t be printing any more so when it’s gone, it’s gone.
You can purchase here:
Of course you can buy the issue digitally for £2.50. Or purchase a six month or year-long subscription to WSAG.
For your subscription you will receive the next 6 or 10 issues along with a whole stack of back issues to plough through over the coming months. At the moment, there are almost 30 back issues all of which you will receive free with your subscription.
Each new monthly issue will download automatically as and when they are published.
